Think No Evil: Inside the Story of the Amish Schoolhouse Shooting... and Beyond by Jonas Beiler with Shawn Smucker
When the unthinkable happened October 2006, the nation was stunned. The random, senseless kidnapping and shooting of 10 innocent Amish girls, resulting in the deaths of 5 of the girls, rocked a community to its very core. Even more incomprehensible are the actions of the Amish community, including family members who lost children, following the tragedy.
Jonas Beiler, who grew up in an Old Order Amish household, gives an insider's view to what happened. He provides not only the history of the Amish, but also insight into their thought processes and their ready forgiveness in the wake of such horror, as well as their desire for others to hear of Christ through this tragedy. Beiler's descriptions of the crime scene and assault from the viewpoint of various people/agencies involved places the reader in the midst of the action. Through it all, Beiler emphasizes the importance of forgiveness, not only for those at fault but also for the victims, no matter the situation.
